I see so many ministries on the internet asking for donations. Many times when you sign up for a newsletter online (or the old fashion way, through a post card), you will find the ministry will contact you for donations. A lot of the big time ministries will do that.
While tjhe Bible says we are to be a cheerful giver (when we pay tithes) and mentions supporting ministers of God in their calling, I get the feeling that some ministries just go too far. They speak of donating and giving to their evangelistical endeavors, and they send you letters and emails how much their work is impacting the nations.

Truthfully, I am a bit skeptical of their boasts. Sorry, but I don’t really see the fruits of their efforts. Piuctures and photos can be copied, even manipulated, and let’s face it, we all know there are hucksters out there…even the “godly” kind.

A true Christian knows that the only way to move the boundaries of heaven and hell, is to put one foot in front of the other and repeat, also by keeping one knee on the ground, and our heads bowed low. It’s about speaking God’s truth into the void and into the four corners of the world.

I’m not downplaying any efforts to further the kingdom of heaven, but we can’t send out letters about how our ministry is impacting the world and yet ask for money to continue God’s work. That’s what tithing is for.

Many ministries have automatic forms where you are obligated to send in monthly, or weekly. I can see a solo pastor doing this.

But for a ministry to do this, all the while sending you full color postal mails, and keeping you abreast of how well their efforts are doing… that doesn’t seem right…
